Mari Chiba re-learned to knit in the Peace Corps in Armenia, started designing while teaching English in China, and now designs from the desk in her dining room in Raleigh, NC. She spends every waking moment working with yarn and fiber in one way or another.
Designing the Connectivity GloveThe Connectivity Glove pattern started with the prompt: "Design some gloves using SilverSpun®." Mari chose to knit with two different weights to create a textural difference, plus knitting the body of the gloves with a heavier weight yarn gives them a little more warmth and makes them faster to knit. She wanted to create a pattern that would highlight the conductive quality of SilverSpun®, but she also wanted a glove that was functionally useful and aesthetically logical. What she came up with was a glove that's also a mitten! You can flip down the mitten portion to give an extra layer of warmth to your fingers or fold it up and use your favorite touch screen device. It looks like a glove AND a fingerless mitten, but you don't get too much bulk on the palm of your hand.
The Power of SilverSpun® For Connectivity and ComfortThe silver content in SilverSpun® makes it therapeutic and conductive. Silver inhibits the growth of odor causing bacteria, has excellent thermal properties, is nontoxic and is perfect for those suffering from diabetes, arthritis and sensitive skin. Silver is also an excellent conductive agent thus allowing smart phone or tablet touch screen use while wearing gloves knit from the yarn. The silver is permanently adhered to the yarn and will not wash out.
